Abby's Birthday
12/19/10 08:26 PM
I added some photos of Abby’s birthday party this past week-end at the local ice skating rink. It was a lot of fun, but it was very cold inside the rink area. Molly and I felt like we spent about 3 hours in a deep freeze. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Enjoy the pictures. They are located in the Photos Album section.
Also here is a picture of the tree at the entrance to our neighborhood. We think it is very pretty this time of year. Kinda looks like it is on fire.

Neighborhood Decorations
12/12/10 08:43 PM
This past weekend Molly and I had the pleasure of hanging the decorations for our neighborhood. On Friday night about 8:00 Molly, Livy, Abby and I went out to the front of our neighborhood armed with six 48 inch wreathes, a bag of extra large zip ties and an old wood folding ladder that we have had for about 15 years.
We thought, “this will be fun and the girls will enjoy the experience”. We live in a gated community and our job was to hang the six wreathes on both sides of each of the front gates. We prepared everything and I climbed the ladder to hang the first of the six wreaths. Right as I got to the top of the ladder a car pulled up and the gate started to open. Luckily I was on the inside of the gate and it didn’t push the ladder over, but we didn’t realize that there would be that much traffic in and out of our neighborhood at 8:00 at night. Soooooooo....about 2 hours later we had finished hanging the six wreathes. In the picture below you are looking at the entrance from the outside. You can see the wreathes and some lights that we put up. That’s Molly and Luke on the right, Livy and Abby were standing behind me trying to stay out of the way and not get run over by the cars going in and out. It was fun to do something that others can enjoy.
Molly said that people had complemented on the decorations at a Christmas in the Park get together that her and the girls went to today. I guess it was worth it.
Here is another picture without the car lights. Not as pretty but you can see the wreathes a little better.

Do-It-Yourself washing machine drama
12/06/10 08:18 PM
I just wanted to give you an update on our washing machine drama. So here goes. The other day I mentioned that we had some trouble with our less than 5 year old washer, well we had discussed calling a repair guy to come out and look at it. So the next day I left for work thinking that Molly was going to call the repair guy. When I get home and go into the laundry room the washer is in pieces. When I asked what happened here is the story I got.
Molly said she started thinking it was the lid switch. So she “googled” for a solution. She starts taking the top piece, where the dials are, apart. In order to get the top thingy off, you have to reach under and above the tub part and push these little latches on both sides to release the housing that holds the dials. She said that she was pushing on one of the latches and the next thing she knows her thumb gets stuck between the latch and the washing machine body. In other words she was STUCK and couldn’t get her thumb loose. Know it would be really funny if I would’ve come home and seen her stuck there, but she was able, after several minutes to get her thumb loose.
After almost filling the laundry room with water and a few scrapped knuckles, working together, we were able to determine that it wasn’t the latch but the pump that pumps water out of the tub.
So after all that, I called the repair guy and he showed up today at 5:30 p.m. He took the pump apart and found a PINK SOCK stuck in the pump.
Now the washing machine is working and we are able to wash clothes again. But that’s not the end of the story. Molly and I were standing there admiring our working washing machine and the refrigerator in the laundry room starts up it’s cooling cycle. The fan motor starts making this awful noise. Luckily we were able to fix it fairly easily by disassembling the freezer area and adjusting the cover that goes over the fan motor. You know I am starting to hate appliances!!
I hope you enjoyed the stories. Nobody was hurt or injured during any of these events. Molly was a huge help and if not for her we likely would have paid a lot more for the repairs. I have been forced to find my inner handy-man

5 Year Rule
12/02/10 08:24 PM
Not sure if any of you know what the five year rule is but I can tell you it is consistent. What I am talking about is the planned obsolescence of appliances. Today Molly called me and said that the washing machine is making a funny noise and is not draining. So after taking most of it appart and doing a long search on “google” we have determined that the problem is the drain pump and that something is stuck inside it and won’t let it turn.
In order to get to the pump you have to turn the washing machine on it’s side. Well with water still in the tub it makes this pretty difficult. Any way, we have decided to wait till tomorrow to delve further into the guts of our washing machine to see if we can fix it. More than likely we will be calling a repairman.
Just needed to vent. We will let you know how things go.

Some People have Birthdays this Month
12/01/10 10:13 PM
I would like to say a very Happy Birthday to my cousin, Donny. I know...I know...it’s almost a belated birthday but as you can see by the post time above I made it in time.
I would also like to say Happy Birthday to another special person.
I hope you both have a very special day.

Some Changes
12/01/10 09:36 PM
You can see that I have been making some changes to the site. I started thinking about what I really wanted to do with the site. For the most part I will be showing pictures of our family happenings. So I think the best way to do that is to not have a whole lot of distraction from the site its self and focus on the pictures. I am not sure if this is the final iteration of the site, I’m sure it will go through more changes as we go along, but I think I like this layout and the colors.
Let me know if you like it or if you don’t. Since I am not sure how it will look on your computer, please let me know if you have any suggestions for improvement.
Enough about the site..........Ok, I have a funny story for you. Tuesday of this week Molly took Livy to the bus stop and took Luke, our dog, along with her. They get to the bus stop, Livy and Molly get out of the car just as the bus is pulling up. Molly kisses Livy goodbye and Livy gets on the bus. Molly walks back to the car and finds that the doors are locked. She realizes that she has left her keys in the car. Luke had mashed the door lock button!!
Molly gets a ride back to our house with a friend. She finds that she had locked all the doors to the house, closed the garage door and her cell phone is in the house. She goes over to our next door neighbors and borrows their phone and calls me at work. I have to come all the way back to our house to let her in. As I turn onto the street that leads to our culdasac I see Molly’s car parked at the bus stop and there is Luke just sitting up proud in the drivers seat waiting for us to come get him.
How’s that for a Tuesday morning? :-0
